The modular SEMIKUBE™ B6CI platform has been improved with a new driver and adapter board resulting in higher integration and intelligence. Plus a new smaller family member, SEMIKUBE™½, for 60 kW - 110 kW drives, now complements the excellent power/volume ratio of this platform.
Nuremberg, June 7, 2005 - SEMIKRON introduces the improved power electronics platform SEMIKUBE™ B6CI now with SKYPERTMPRO and driver adapter board providing higher integration and intelligence. The compact, easy to maintain and flexible system for forced air-cooled inverters is now also available for lower power ratings – yet another development by the unique global network of 9 Semikron Solution Centers.
In addition to the embedded functions and protection of SKYPERTM PRO such as soft turn-off and external error input, the SEMIKUBE™ platform now has AC current, heatsink temperature and DC voltage analog outputs, (galvanic isolation to 4 kV between primary & secondary); over-current protection (Vce sat + current monitoring), over-temperature protection, over DC-voltage protection and current imbalance monitoring between the paralleled modules. The last fault LED indicator assists the maintenance team to detect the origin of a recurring stop, even after the inverter has restarted.
SEMIKUBE™ ½ has a footprint of only 154 x 306 mm². The rectifier, inverter, sensors, drivers and capacitors neatly fit onto this small space. Developed for 60 kW -110 kW drives, this smaller replica of the larger SEMIKUBE™ models now complements the excellent power/volume ratio of this platform.
The SEMIKUBE™ B6CI platform is available in six different sizes for forced air-cooled inverters from 160A to 1550A. The calculated lifetime is more than 60 000 hours under harsh conditions at 45°C in the cabinet.
Similar SEMIKUBE™ blocks are connected in various mechanical and electrical arrangements to achieve the desired electrical and mechanical performance. The low inductive bus connector allows for fast connection and disconnection. The cubic form of the blocks enables the SEMIKUBE™ to be installed in the cabinet in a horizontal or vertical orientation.
In the SEMIKUBE™ range the capacitors are forced air-cooled, guaranteeing a long life time expectancy and avoiding the occurrence of hot spots. The excellent symmetry of the busbar system between the capacitor blocks and the IGBT modules, ensures optimum current sharing between the modules, and between the capacitors. All six sizes use the same spare parts. This ensures easy integration, plug and play capability and easy maintenance. Strong emphasis was placed on reducing the number of parts during the design phase to achieve the best economic vs. performance balance.
