OMEGA’s high accuracy GasTurbine Series measures thevolumetric flow of gas through apipeline. Gas flowing through themeter turns the turbine rotor at anangular velocity which isproportional to the velocity of thegas being measured. As theturbine rotor turns, the rotor bladespass a non-intrusive pickup coil thatgenerates an electrical signal,referred to as a pulse. Each pulserepresents a specific volume of gas(i.e. ACF/AM3). The totalization of thesepulses results in the total volumetric flow. The totalvolume can be converted to mass flow total (SCF orNM3) using reference conditions and base density, orby applying various correction techniques.Standard calibrations for these gas turbine systemsare performed at a reference density of 0.1 lb/Ft3. A10-point calibration certificate (traceable to NIST orother recognized national laboratory) is supplied witheach meter. Standard calibration includes a calculatedK-factor for gas that is derived from a 10-point NISTcalibration for water. Calibrations at customer’s actualoperating densities can be performed with specialorder.OMEGA’s gas turbine flowmeters offer high accuracymeasurement of gases for a wide variety of applications,including fiscal measurement, plant cost allocation,energy consumption/conservation, etc. These gasturbine systems are suitable for all non-corrosivegases such as natural gas, air and nitrogen. Specialversions of this series are available for use oncorrosive gases, such as “off-gas” and feature NACEMR175trim and self-lubricated ceramic ball bearings.Contact OMEGA for further details.An OMEGA™ gas turbine flowmeter should be chosenso that it is operated within its most accurate range.The capacity of a turbine flowmeter is based on theactual volumetric flow rate and is expressed as actualcubic feet (ACF) or actual cubic meters (AM3). Thelower limit of operation is a function of the gas densityand velocity.
