DIN Rail Signal Conditioner with Universal Input
The DRI-U Series is a DIN rail mount, thermocouple, RTD, resistance or voltageinput signal conditioner with 1800V isolationbetween input, output and power. The fieldconfigurable input and output offers flexible, wide ranging capability for most temperaturesignal conditioning applications. The DRI-U Seriesis configured via DIP switch for Types J, K, T, E, R,S, B, N, or C thermocouples or Pt, Ni or Cu RTDs.Additionally, functions such as signal linearization, up ordown-scale burnout, number of RTD leads (2, 3 or 4) andvoltage or current output are also set via dip-switches.
Cold-junction compensation for accuracy and performance
Accuracy and performance during warm-up and duringchanges in ambient temperature are maximized. The cold-junction compensation technique utilizestwo temperature sensors to measure the differentialtemperature near the terminal block. Using heat transfercalculations with the measured differential temperatureand the known thermal conductivity of the PCB, theterminal junction temperature is determined with extremeaccuracy. Even during unstable thermal states such asstart-up, ambient temperature changes or changing loador power, the DRI-U Series performs extremely accuratethermocouple temperature measurement.
Quick and accurate calibration checks
System performance and productivity are improveddue to reduced warm up time, fewer temperaturemeasurement errors and tighter process control forhigher quality. Most significantly, it allows calibration tobe checked quickly and accurately without the effectsof rapid ambient temperature changes due to openinga control panel door, which often causes erroneousreadings and miscalibrations that are a common causeof measurement errors.
Easy field ranging for any thermocouple or RTD input types
Touch calibration technology allows easy field rangingfor any of the thermocouple or RTD input types. Forexample, the dip-switch configured range for the J Typethermocouple is -210 to 760°C (-346 to 1400°F). Using athermocouple simulator as a reference, the DRI-U Seriescould be ranged for 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) or0 to 500°C (32 to 932°F) by simply applying the desiredminimum and maximum input levels and pushing therange button to store the levels in non-volatile memory. The output is ranged by applying an input signal toachieve an accurate output level and pushing the rangebutton.
The DRI-U Series field configurable thermocouple orRTD input signal conditioner is useful in eliminatingground loops and interfacing temperature sensorsto data acquisition and control systems. Three-wayisolation completely eliminates ground loops from anysource. Isolation protects expensive SCADA systemsfrom ground faults and allows the noise reductionbenefits of grounded thermocouples or sensors to berealized.
The DRI-U Series employs the latest analog to digitalsignal processing technology and advanced low-powermicroprocessors. Cold junction compensation (CJC)of thermocouples, and lead length compensation forRTDs ensures an extremely accurate and stable signalfor virtually any temperature sensor to DC signalconversion.
High density DIN rail mounting offers a very compactsolution and saves valuable panel space. Power isdelivered to the DRI-U Series using the exclusiveACPB (AC power) or DCPB (DC power) rail whichreduces wiring requirements and the need to daisychainpower. Plug-in screw terminals ensure easyinstallation and low Mean-Time-To-Repair (MTTR).
The DRI-U Series is equipped with front panel LEDsfor input power (green-on), input overrange andunderrange; input open circuit (yellow-on); and switchsetting error (red-on).
The DRI-U Series can be configured via dip-switchesfor a wide variety of temperature input ranges for RTD,thermocouple, resistance and voltage inputs. Inputscan be offset by >90% or adjusted down to <10% ofthe full scale span.
